We are a DFW area family with 4 kids. I was a drummer in high school and enjoyed it immensely so I was excited when my son, Carson, started playing drums when he was 8. At the end of 5th grade, he tried out for the band percussion class and was accepted. I expected that I’d need to purchase all the typical stuff – sticks, music books, drum pad, etc.. but I was a bit surprised by the requirement to obtain a practice marimba.
I contacted all the local music stores and found I could either spend $1,500 to purchase a new marimba or rent one for roughly $60/mo. Neither of those seemed like a great option so I started combing
As an entrepreneur, I see these challenges through a different lens. I realize that other parents are facing a similar challenge so I launched DFWMarimbas.com to provide marimba rentals at a lower price and with better service. How do I do it?
- I purchase used marimbas then I clean and repair them. I have less invested in each marimba so I can rent them for less.
- I don’t have much overhead as I run this business part-time from my home with no employees, no rent, etc..
- I utilize the latest secure web technologies for recurring billing to reduce the manual work required.
- This isn’t a full-time business and doesn’t require a full-time salary. Therefore I can pass those savings on to parents.
